Theory of Superconducting Quantum Devices

Led by Alexandre Blais, the group specializes in the physics of superconducting quantum circuits and, more particularly, circuit quantum electrodynamics (circuit QED) with applications to quantum information processing and quantum optics. We collaborate with leading academic and industrial groups worldwide.

  • Doing a PhD in Alexandre's group has enabled me to develop several new skills, both in superconducting circuit physics and in communication, and to be in direct contact with several specialized experimental groups. It's the ideal group to push your creativity to the limit, while having access to all the necessary tools. I'm also very lucky to have been able to work with all the brilliant and talented people Alexandre continually brings together in his group.

  • Working in Alexandre’s group has had a profound impact on my career. His trust, patience, and encouragement brought me out of my shell and allowed me to grow as a confident researcher. Even during my one day interview visit to his group I saw how unassuming and respectful he was with his students and how he patiently explained concepts. His ideas on scientific writing and presentations have deeply influenced me.

Shruti Puri , Postdoc, now professor at Yale University
  • My experience with the group has been excellent. In particular, Alexandre instills a team atmosphere where collaboration is encouraged. What's more, my career path has been strongly influenced by my time in the group, which has enabled me to develop collaborations and expand my professional network. This gave me access to several opportunities that enabled me to pursue a career in academia. More specifically, I had the opportunity to collaborate with several world-class experimental groups on exciting projects.

Baptiste Royer , PhD, now professor at Université de Sherbrooke after a postdoc at Yale University
